ENGLISH CLASS

A gente aprende dos outros países o que realmente interessa.

Andy diz:
hey baby! how are you?

Manga-la-ô diz:
heeey baby! been a while

Andy diz:
indeed

Manga-la-ô diz:
work?

Andy diz:
home working.

Manga-la-ô diz:
hm...what time is it there?

Andy diz:
13.47

Manga-la-ô diz:
here it's 10:42

Andy diz:
ok - 3 now!

Manga-la-ô diz:
went to a PUB last night, made me remind you somehow. wonder if thats because youre english.....

Andy diz:
the irish pub in sp?

Manga-la-ô diz:
not the irish pub, the PUBLIC (really beautiful place)

Andy diz:
where is that?

Manga-la-ô diz:
pinheiros

Manga-la-ô diz:
and I didnt know about the ringing thing

Andy diz:
ah! i am wearing a guiness t-shirt now

Manga-la-ô diz:
In the middle of nothing someone started to ring a bell to warn everybody to stop drinking or something like that.

Andy diz:
i used to go to the finnegans pub in pinheiros

Manga-la-ô diz:
not me. yesterday was my very first time in a ringing bar....

Andy diz:
ok the bell works like this:

Manga-la-ô diz:
alright

Andy diz:
because of the world wars public houses (pubs) had to bring in licensing laws to ensure that people would not be too pissed to start work in the mornings in the munitions factories

Andy diz:
so the laws came in.

Andy diz:
LAST ORDERS at 22.45 (the first bell)

Andy diz:
this is when you go to the bar and put your last orders for drinks for the night in

Andy diz:
then at 23.00 the second bell goes which means that last orders is over and it is DRINKING UP TIME

Andy diz:
you then have until 23.15 at the VERY LAST MINUTE

Andy diz:
to drink up!

Andy diz:
except on sundays.

Andy diz:
because sunday was the last day before the beginning of the week the government wanted its workers to be fit and ready

Andy diz:
so last orders was at 22.30 and drinking up was at 22.45

Andy diz:
there are plenty of other bits and bobs around this but that is basically that

Manga-la-ô diz:
I had no idea at all

Manga-la-ô diz:
I think I might have done it all wrong.

Manga-la-ô diz:
next time i'll try to be more english, of course not to mention the heat inside....I mean, its almost impossible to order a guinness after a couple of hours inside there anyway.
But I thank you for this express english class!

Andy diz:
De nada.
